The online service

In France, naturalisation applications are made through the Ministry of the Interior's online service "Demande en ligne de naturalisation française ou de réintégration dans la nationalité française", on the ANEF portal (administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr). You create a personal space, upload scans and follow your file and notifications there. Help is available from the Centre de Contact Citoyens (0806 001 620) and at digital access points in préfectures.

Core documents

  • Valid residence permit and passport or identity document
  • Your full birth certificate, and civil-status documents for marriages, divorces and children
  • Proof of address
  • Proof of income and employment, and tax notices (avis d'imposition)
  • Diploma or attestation proving B2 French
  • Attestation of success at the examen civique
  • The €255 timbre fiscal

The online service shows the exact list for your situation.

Foreign documents

Foreign civil-status documents generally need a translation by a sworn translator (traducteur agréé) and, depending on the country, legalisation or an apostille. Start early: these are often the slowest documents to obtain.

Avoiding delays

  • Upload legible, complete scans (all pages)
  • Keep your contact details and email up to date: notifications, including the interview invitation, arrive in your personal space
  • Answer requests for additional documents quickly
  • Keep originals ready for the interview
